Wrong Way: Notes

Wrong Way, UnSafe Site

Improvements

This entrance has now been blocked to traffic except for use as an emergency exit. Signage directs drivers to the single main entrance. Rationalising the entrances improves traffic flows both within the site and on the roads approaching it. It also improves security; providing one less means of accessing the site.

Drivers notified of destination

The issue of vehicles that are too large to traverse a site emphasises the value of the guidance given by the HSE in "Ten Tips for a Safer Site". Sending information to drivers before they arrive about such things as the maximum size of vehicles that can be accommodated or a map of the site is highly beneficial.

Site plans introduced

The addition of a site map at the main entrance helps visitors and delivery drivers plan their route through the site. Prominently placed plans and numbers have also been added to each building.

Height restriction introduced

A physical barrier restricts access to large vehicles that would be unable to negotiate a path beneath the raised walkway.
