HSC recognises new accrediting body for lift truck training

On 7 March 2005 the Health and Safety Commission recognised a sixth body as competent to operate voluntary accreditation schemes for lift truck training. This body is the Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register (ITSSAR). Contact details for ITSSAR and all the accrediting bodies can be found by clicking on the link below."

Workplace transport is the second biggest cause of fatal accidents in British workplaces, killing hundreds and injuring thousands of people every year. The vast majority of these accidents are preventable.

This part of our website is intended to help you prevent all four common vehicle accident types (vehicle strikes, overturns, falling people and falling objects), and emphasises the need to assess and manage site, vehicle and driver safety issues.

The Safety Information section is split into guidance about managing for safety for those responsible for a site, and into safety guidance for vehicle operators (drivers, etc.). There are also free guides for you to download, to help you improve safety in your workplace. Also in this section, you can find information specific to your industry, and further workplace transport safety information (including lift truck issues on training and licensing).

The Case Studies area shares some experience of what can go wrong, and what can happen to those involved, ranging from fines to to injury and death. Look here for examples of bad practice, and what it costs.
